Smart card - Similar to a new bank card with a chip in it. The chip looks a bit like a mobile phone sim card. These cards are placed into the insertion and read by the lock's CPU. Smart cards are more robust and can with stand more wear and tear.
Magnetic cards- similar to a credit card. The card has a magnetic strip running along the side of it. The card is placed into the insertion, read by the lock's CPU and removed. These are a more cost effective option as they are ideal for a hotel with high volumes of traffic per day where cards need to be replaced often.
